Know Your Weapons

Lee Lofland, author of the Graveyard Shift, has graciously allowed me to link to his post about Cops and Guns.

Though his post is aimed at writer's, he's got good basic information that all gun owners and users should know.  Pop on over to his post and let him know GunDiva sent you :)

  1. Wow! talk about picking the fly crap outa the pepper....LOL

I didn't hear him discuss anything about long guns. on the whole clip versus magazine thingymabob.

with pistols I believe he said that a clip held the cartridges (not shells) *grin* out side the weapon then they are inserted into the gun it is called the magazine.

How about the M-1 Garande is it a clip while in your belt holder then a magazine when inserted into the thumb eating crevice of said weapon????

In my growing up experiences the magazine was always referring to the fixed tubular receptical of said cartridges, and the clip was the remote holder of said cartridges....
Does that mean that when inserted into the weapon the the clip should now be referred to as the magazine?????

    This is all so confusing....

A good old redneck just puts the thingymabobs, into the doohickey, and inserts into the whatchamacallit, and shoots the Sh@t outa things....

Now I ask you what could be more easy, less stressful and fun than that...

    Just saying....

  2. So this is what I get for being lazy and linking to the Graveyard Shift.

Here's the clip/magazine definition we use at the gun shop: If it feeds a cartridge into the chamber using a spring, then it's a magazine. If the cartridges are just held in place, it's a clip. And M-1 Garands are critters unto themselves. The cartridges are held in a stripper clip that is inserted into the non-detachable magazine.

There are lots of debates about the difference between clips and magazines, so the definition we use at the shop is the easiest for me :)

Mr. Mrs. Mom - any thoughts from your gun shop perspective?
