Try before you buy! Enter Vulcan Circle!

We at The GunDivas always believe in the try before you buy philosophy when it comes to firearms and firearm accessories.  You are spending hundreds, even thousands of dollars on your equipment, so you want to get the right equipment the first time. 

This is not always easy.  Not all gun ranges have rentals.  Or they may not have the exact model you want to try out.  And trying out accessories is even worse.  Your only experience with accessories, such as optics, is limited to handling the product in the retail shop, if your local shop has the model you want to try.  Your only other option is opinions you find on the Internet.  Personally, I find most Internet reviews sketchy at best.  You find some people who love the product, others who hate it.  Who do you believe?

Well, the good news is, the industry is starting to come around and help out consumers, at least in the optics department. 

Enter VulcanCircle.  A paid membership service that allows you to borrow an optic for 3 months.  This allows you to mount the optic to your rifle and take it for a real test drive in real world conditions.  Truly test out the optic as it is meant to be used.

Looking for a new 3-gun optic?  Check one out and take it to competition for 3 months and see how it performs.  If you don’t like it, return the optic by the due date and check out something else. 

Want to compare different red dot sights?  Now you can try before you buy. 

Some may balk at the cost.  I ask, what is more expensive, a few hundred dollars in subscription fees?  Or purchasing an optic that you does not meet your needs?  That you end up being stuck with or sell at a loss. 

Now other than their existence, we at The GunDivas have not tried VulcanCircle.  We just found out about them ourselves. 

If we decide to obtain a subscription ourselves, we will do a follow up article at a later date.

It is good to see the gun industry starting to provide better customer service to the gun community. 

I personally hope the rest of the industry follows suit with the same or similar trial programs and helps customers find and buy the right products for them.

Review: Right Now Range

While we were at Industry Days at SHOT Show, we got to handle a portable range system called the Right Now Range.  The founder/designer and I had been in contact before the show and I was looking forward to seeing it with my own two eyes.  Once I got to handle it, I fell in love.  It's such a simple, yet beautiful design that I'm kicking myself for not coming up with it on my own.

She offered to send us a sample to try out and there was no way I was going to say no to that offer!  It arrived shortly after we got home, but we had to wait for a decent weather day to test it out.  (I'm old, I don't shoot in the cold and snow unless I have to anymore.)  Finally, late March came around and it was nice enough to spend some time outdoors.

The Right Now Range sets up quickly; under five minutes even if you have no idea what you're doing. It is a whole lot lighter and takes up less space than my wooden target stands. Plus, it's completely reusable and recyclable.

It was breezy, but not windy, the day we went out, and the provided stakes did a good job of keeping the target stand in place.  I'm not sure how well it would stand up to Wyoming "breezes", but it did well on the Northern Colorado plains.

I was feeling under the weather, so Jay and Mez took it upon themselves to try to destroy it.  I shot a few rounds at it and loved it, but they really went to town on it.  Jay shot it with 12 ga slugs and 12 ga Multiple Impact Bullets.  Truth be told, it held up well enough that we could have saved it and used it again just by stapling targets over the holes they put in it.

Virtual Gunpowder Therapy

I haven't been to the range in the last few weeks and miss it terribly, so I was going through some of my old shooting videos and thought I'd share a couple of them with you.  I'll apologize in advance for the poor quality - these videos were taken on my digital camera back in 2006 - they've improved a whole lot since then.

This one is a head-to-head competition between my brother, Junior, and I.  There were two targets we had to neutralize.  I took one target with a single shot to the head, the other with two to the chest.  You'll see my draw was slower than Junior's, but I killed both targets with only three rounds - he ran through several more.

This other video is just of one of our stages.  I shot it slow, but clean. 

No, I was not wearing proper range attire, what with my tank top.  Funny story about that tank top... one of our stages that day was to carry a phone from our starting shooting position to the next one.  Lots of the guys were fumbling around, trying to find a pocket that wasn't stuffed with magazines to put the phone in so that they wouldn't have to shoot one-handed.  Me?  I dropped into my cleavage.

Okay, I'm almost done with my little video trip down memory lane.  Just one last video.  This one was from our Zombie shooting match in 2009.  I hadn't shot my Para in a couple of years before this match (I'd sold it and then re-purchased it from the guy I sold it to), so I'm slow, but mostly clean.

There's A Change In The Air

Some of you may have read my True Story Tuesday post last week about Mistaken Identity.

In an effort to break away from the lovely T&A site that is http://www.girlswithguns.com/, we're going to be changing our name.  But we'll still be the same ole Mrs Mom and GunDiva that you know and love.

Over the next few weeks, our blog will start to look a little different, beginning with our new name, The GunDivas.  I know it sounds kind of ego-centric, but there are a whole lot of GunDivas out there - Mrs Mom and I are just two of them.

Sometimes, change is good and I have a feeling that this will be a very good change.
