Industry Day at the Range: Magstorage Solutions

This product is something that I'm so in love with that I've actually become a dealer.

I don't know about you, but when the insanity hit Colorado and we found out we were going to be limited in magazine capacity, I bought mags for guns I didn't even own yet.  The result is that I have boxes of mags just taking up space.  Space that we really don't have in our 647 square foot house.  Magstorage Solutions is going to fix that.

You can mount this in your vehicle and not worry about losing mags.

The mags slip in securely with a satisfying "snap", but aren't impossible to remove.  The holders are easy to attach to a wall, with just four screws.  Since the attachment points are keyholes, if you need - for whatever reason - to take the whole thing off of the wall, just push the bottom of the holder up and slip it off.

Do you want to keep your mags in your gun safe with your rifles?  No problem, they've got an answer for that too.  With the neodymium magnet kit ($16.95), you can attach your mag holder to any steel door.

The wall unit (holds six magazines) retails on their website for $35.95 and the car unit (holds six magazines) retails for $109.95.

Industry Day at the Range: WM Tactical

Over the next few posts, Mez and I are going to be talking about the things that caught our eye at Industry Day.  In years past, we've spend a lot of focus on shooting the new toys and haven't spent any time in the non-shooting area.  This year, we set out to remedy that and we're so glad we did.  We got to see some really cool things that we might have overlooked on the show floor.

One of the booths we stopped at was WM Tactical.  What I would have given to have these multi-axis sights at my AR classes.  Since I did both classes with iron sights, having the ability to adjust them 45* to either side would have made my life so much easier on the 9-hole.

Life would have been so easy if I could have just flipped the sights to the left.

I had the chance to talk to the guys from WM, and this is what they had to say:



I have to admit, I'm sold.  The retail listed on their website is $299.95 and I wouldn't be surprised if a set showed up on my AR in the future.

Everybody Loves Kitten Videos

So I give you, Abby the Abandoned Shitten, in her RapDom Tactical beer koozie.  Every year, RapDom gives away beer koozies at their booth (though we use ours for wine bottles). 

Must protect the wine.

I've always wondered if it would fit a pocket critter like a teacup chihuahua (it doesn't) or a kitten.

I haven't been brave enough to try to strap it onto the shitten because she's sharp and pointy and not afraid to use her sharp, pointy parts.  My daughter came for a visit this morning and offered to help dress Abby.  We came out of it with surprisingly little bloodshed, though Abby may kill me in my sleep tonight.

In all honesty, cool factor aside, I've not had a chance to try their products, but they look to be well-built and sturdy.  Check them out if you're in the market for gear.  They have everything from gloves to bags.

Ammo-Up

One of the products we saw at SHOT Show was Ammo-Up, a device that helps with the dreaded chore of picking up brass (brassing).  We stopped by their booth a couple of years ago and I fell in love with their 18" rifle and pistol brass picker_upper.  It's like a giant push mower that picks up brass and deposits it in a basket.  At $495, as much as I loved it, there was no way I could afford it.

However, when we stopped by their booth this year, we found that they are releasing a compact version that is ideal for brassing around barricades and in corners.  I haven't seen a price on it yet, but the gentleman we talked to at the booth said it would be right around $100 when it is released later this year.

I know it looks good picking up brass on a show floor, but I hope to get a chance to try it out once it's released and give a proper review.  Until then, here's a video of the demo at the show.

SHOT Show 2015: CMMG MK47 Mutant

For all you AK-47 fans that want to try the AR15 but don't want to change calibers and for AR15 fans who want to dip your toes into the AK-47 realm and try the 7.62x39 cartridge but don't want to change rifle platforms, CMMG has the rifle for you.

For 2015 CMMG (www.cmmginc.com) has introduced the MK47 Mutant.  It is an AR15 rifle that has been specifically re-engineered to use standard AK-47 magazines but retain the accuracy, ergonomics and reliability of the AR15 rifle.

What makes the Mutant unique amongst caliber conversions for the AR15 platform is CMMG started from the ground up to properly fit the 7.62x39 cartridge into the AR rifle.
The rifle uses all standard AK-47 magazines, including the large drum magazines, instead of trying to modify an AR15 magazine to feed correctly.  Otherwise the feel and controls are the same as any other AR15 on the market.  The only down side to using standard AK-47 magazines is you loose the last shot bolt hold open.  The AK-47 rifle also lacks this feature.

The Mutant also uses a larger bolt based off the .308 bolt to accommodate the larger diameter case thus eliminating the possibility of cracking that is common when a standard bolt is used and modified to fit the 7.62x39 cartridge.  This redesign makes the Mutant a very robust rifle.

Other than a unique buffer and buffer spring, you can modify the mutant to your hearts desire as any other AR15 rifle.  It does come standard with a Keymod free float tube to attach your favorite accessories.

Estimated accuracy is 2 inches at 100 yards or better depending on quality of ammunition.  Much better than the best AK-47.  The Mutant is also lighter than the standard AK-47, approximately 7 pounds.  

If you love the AK-47 and want to try and AR or love the AR15 and want to dip your toes into the AK-47 realm, then check out the Mutant by CMMG.  You get the best of both worlds in one rifle.
