Range Rules

From time to time, I have heard people moan and complain about range rules. "But, I want to draw from a holster." "I want to practice double taps." "I want to do a mag dump as fast as I can pull the trigger."

Well, there is a reason for those rules. You don't want to play by their rules....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Why do I point this out?

Because the Dallas area is short one indoor gun range this morning because some MORON decided he wanted to shoot a TRACER round into the back stop at an indoor range in VIOLATION of the range's rules.

Retard.

I happen to have frequented this range on more than one occasion being as how it is the host range for the action pistol club of which I am a member. It had the advantage of being convenient (more or less) to my commute home from work.

It's a good thing I happen to know a new, better range range where I can get my indoor recoil therapy fix; however, if DFW Gun Range rebuilds to a higher standard, Eagle Gun Range in Lewisville may have some competition.

I tell you. Sometimes, we are our own worst enemies.

We were just there not long ago. Nice range and now runined by an idiot!

We do want to try out Eagle Gun Range at some point.

Lowry, if you think DFW was a nice range (and it wasn't bad), you will be very impressed with Eagle. 2A Mama and the rest of the crew there are good folks, and they have a nice place.

Brother, dumbasses. Obviously, he was a rocket scientist.

Puts a whole new meaning to the term, 'Let's Light Up The Place.'

Momma Fargo, if you read the news article, genius admitted to firing the tracer and will likely face civil liability for his stupidity assuming he has some form of personal liability insurance or other assets with which to satisfy a judgment.

Coffeypot, drat...I wish I had thought that one up. How about "You may fire when ready."?

Somebody sure stepped up to the firing line.

Seriously, though...there are rules there for a reason, folks! I don't shoot my Enfield at Winchester Gallery over in Ft Worth because they dont' like my ammo. So I don't try to sneak it in, I just don't bring it to shoot there. Been to DFWGun once, it was a nice place, and MrsAlien and I were looking forward to going back. Now that's on hold, guess we'll have to check out Eagle Range in Lewisville.

I do have to say, though, that the guy did fess up to his stupidity. That doesn't excuse him from his actions, or nullify the consequences, but I will respect him for not trying to pass the blame.

Ok, possible props for owning up to it, but still...there are rules for a reason.

Sad for DFW Gun and their employees. It's hard to find places to shoot and to lose one because of stupidity, that's even worse.

Hope 2A Mama enjoys the surge in business at her range.

RabidAlien, yep. He really smoked that target. My understanding is that Eagle will welcome your Enfield with open arms. I mean, heck, the rent a Mosin Nagant for crying out loud. Trust me when I say Eagle Gun Range puts DFW's facility to shame. Hopefully DFW will rebuild in Eagle's image or raise the bar even further.

As to fessing up to his retard moment, I'll give him credit where credit is due for the moment. But I bet he changes his tune when he gets served with the lawsuit. What do you want to bet he will say a buddy slipped a tracer into his range bag and he didn't know about it.

GunDiva, that pretty much puts a flaming bow on the whole situation. I know Eagle will be my indoor destination for sometime to come.

Yeah, when I read the story I just shook my head. Sure I would like to be able to do some things that are prohibited at my range, but not everyone is safe while shooting, so I appreciate why the rules are there.

Although the comments left here are pretty funny:)

A Girl, you have no idea. If there is one thing we need to focus on as a community is safety. Not the "it's for the children" political safety they keep talking about, but real, honest to God, FOUR RULES, safety with some common sense "don't be a retard" thrown in.

Personally, I am more than a little sad at this development. I realized last night that DFW Gun was the sight of one of the more interesting early dates The Queen and I had. I took her there on her birthday to fire a select fire H und K MP5. Iconic bullet hose. Yeah baby!

Sadly, now all we are left with are scorching hot deals on slightly damaged new and used firearms.

I don't understand how this guy won't be prosecuted b/c he didn't break any laws. He alone is responsible for burning down a building. Maybe its considered the same thing as leaving an unattended burning candle? I don't know, idiot doesn't even begine to describe this guy.

Daddy Hawk said...

Michelle, essentially, what the article is saying is that, despite being epically stupid, he broke no laws under the Texas Penal code. Arson won't apply since there was no intent to burn the building down. A really vindictive prosecutor might be able to make a reckless endangerment charge stick, but I'd have to go thumbing through the Penal Code to figure out how under the circumstances of this incident. That would probably be nothing more than a misdemeanor with a fine and possibly a short stay at the county jail.

What I would like to see is this guy's photo posted at the check in counter of every gun range in the U.S. so that he is persona non grata thus removing the possibility of him burning down anymore places to shoot.

Double Tap said...

Had a Moron with a 308 and armor piercing round do that at our indoor range. We discovered a hole leaving the building, don't know how far it went, but NO more rifles on the indoor range, except 22.

Daddy Hawk said...

Double Tap, so, what did you all do to the moron?

RabidAlien said...

DH, no worries, respect usually leaves faster than it comes. If he continues to maintain his ownership of this, I'll actually be surprised.

Didn't DFWGun suffer a flood awhile back? I remember checking out their site when Serenity and I started shooting, and read that they were newly renovated after flood damage. Hopefully they renovate and make the place even better (more seating, more lanes, deeper area for milling around behind the line, maybe some tables or something to set your gear on behind the lanes)....

Heading over to their site faster than a scorched cat to check out their hot deals...

Daddy Hawk said...

RabidAlien, I don't recall anything about a flood, but I was also out of town for. Few years. So, I may have missed it. The rebuild you suggest is almost a dead ringer for Eagle Gun Range in Lewisville.

Sad to see that stupidity is spread across the nation. We have the same kind of stupidity up here in Colorado. The indoor range I attend prohibits these specialty rounds as well. But over the past couple years since the range has been open, numerous people have been using steel core bullets. And now the steel backing on the 100 yard rifle range (Yes, 100 yard indoor range) needs to be replaced prematurely. what that means is our monthly dues have now gone up $5 per month. Not a lot of money, but shouldn't be necessary is people would grab a fridge magnet and check their ammo before they go to the range. Sure the military surplus is cheaper, but suck it up cupcake. You have a beautiful 100 yard rifle range and 25 yard pistol range all INDOORS. So stop being a D-bag and ruining the range you pay for.
Anyway, my rant on related topic.

Michael, yep. We all pay for the ignorance of others.
