Quick - Diagnose This Target

Do you know what I was doing wrong (I do because I already cheated)? Can you figure out what your targets can tell you about your shooting? No fair Googling the shooting errors chart (until after you've given up).

Texas CHL qualification from yesterday. 50 Rounds total. 20 rounds at 3 yards. 20 rounds at 7 yards. 10 rounds at 15 yards. Scored 248 out of possible 250 (the major flyer was at 15 yards...got in a rush and didn't focus). All things considered, not bad for someone who hasn't shot anything since September (yes, I know, bad me).

More discussion to follow.

Are you left handed?

Daddy Hawk said...

Nope. Rightie.

looks like too much trigger finger -- pushing the gun to the left

I actually have a post linked to the error chart on here somewhere...

Now, where did I put it?

Bob, my chart says jerking or improper trigger finger placement depending on whether we are talking about the ones between 7 and 8 o'clock versus the ones at 9 o'clock.

GunDiva, beats me. I don't clean up around here.

Yeah, if I had to guess (which is what my "professional opinion" translates to), I'd say there's too much finger on the trigger, not just the tip. The rest look about like a normal day at the range for me. LOL

Rabid, most likely correct. I need to find time for more dry fire practice. By my count though, 30 of 50 went into the same ragged hole.

unfortunately, the charts aren't always correct.

I would say;
1, too much finger
2, a little anticipation
3, possibly not keeping contact with the trigger as part of the follow through

Lynne, charts are guidelines. There are exceptions to them Like GunDiva's odd cross dominant eye freakiness.

GunDiva said...

However, I got new contacts and I can now see my front sight with my dominant eye again. So I'm not longer freaky :)

Hey! Whaz wrong with cross-dominant eyes? Except for the odd stances required to shoot a handgun with your strong hand, and the propensity for 99% of the rifles out there to eject to the right (yeah...I've caught hot brass in the crook of my right arm on any number of occasions).

Daddy Hawk said...

GunDiva, good for you.

Rabid, nothing is wrong with cross dominant. Just be thankful you're not catching brass in other body areas

Your grip was closed, forcing too much trigger finger. Or your sights have drifted left.

Daddy Hawk said...

Mathar, I have a perennial problem with too much trigger finger. It comes with having too long of a finger. Sights are dead on when I do my part.

My target looked almost EXACTLY like that!!! (249;) I thought my grip was too low..??

Daddy Hawk said...

Dave, probably not. If you are a rightie like me, it's usually too much finger on the trigger causing a push.
